Appeal a Citation Online

Overview

This article details the steps to appeal a citation online.

Steps

  1. To appeal a citation online, go to https://www.nvcc.edu/student-resources/parking and select Start Appeal.

  1. Click the myNOVA Login button if you are a student or faculty/staff member. Click the Guest Login button if you are not a student or faculty/staff member.

  1. If you are a student or faculty/staff member, log in using your myNOVA username and multi-factor authentication (MFA).

  1. If you are not a student or faculty/staff member, log in using your driver’s license number and password. If you have not created a Guest Account previously, select the create one link. If you have created a Guest Account but cannot remember your password, select the retrieve your lost information link.

  1. Enter the Citation Number on the docket or the state and license plate of the vehicle that received the citation.

Note: Do not use both. Only use one or the other.

  1. Click the Search Citations button.

  1. Click the Appeal button under Appeal this Citation.

  1. A dialog displays asking you to confirm the plate number of the vehicle that received the citation. Enter the plate number and then click the Confirm button.

  1. Review the details of your citation and the terms of the Appeal Agreement.

  2. Select the I have read and understand the above statements checkbox and then click the Next button.

  1. Select the Email and Mailing Address drop-down menus and then select from the emails and mailing addresses already added to your account to use for the appeal.

  2. If you do not have an email or mailing address on your account, click the Add button next to those fields. The phone number fields are optional.

Note: The appeal decision will be sent to the email address specified on this page, not through the mail.

  1. Enter the reasoning for your appeal.

Note: You must have a minimum of 25 characters but no more than 1,000 characters (roughly 300 words) The appeal must dispute the facts of the citation. You may attach up to 3 files as supporting documentation for your appeal (such as proof of payment, pictures, email correspondence, etc.)

  1. Click the Choose File button to select the file(s) you would like to upload.

  2. Once finished, click the Submit button.

  1. The Appeal Receipt page displays if your submission was successful. An email confirmation with this information will be sent for your records to the email address you specified during the appeal process.

  2. Please allow 1 to 2 weeks for processing. An email with the official decision will be sent to your email once the appeal is processed. All appeal results are final. If the appeal is denied, a $10 processing fee will be added to the citation balance.
