Overview
This article details the steps to install Read&Write software on Windows or Mac.
Install Read&Write Software on Windows

Open your web browser and go to the Read&Write website: https://academy.texthelp.com/read-and-write-education/student-resources

Scroll down to select your operating system and start downloading the Read&Write software. Select your platform and then follow the prompts to install it.

Navigate to the Downloads folder on your computer. Double-click the file named Read&Write.exe.

The InstallShield Wizard will start. You may be asked if you want to give permission for your computer to install the program. Click the Yes button.

You will see a pop-up asking you to install. Click the Accept and Install button.

Find Read&Write on your computer. Navigate to your desktop and double-click on the Read&Write icon to open the program.

This will add a small toolbar to the top of your desktop. Double-click the Read&Write logo on this toolbar.

After installation, if you are a student click the Sign in With Google button and sign in with your VCCS email address (i.e., userid@email.vccs.edu). If you are a faculty member, click the Sign in with Microsoft and sign in with your NVCC email address (i.e., userid@email.vccs.edu).

You will see a message after signing in that says Thanks for singing in! You can now safely close this window.

The Read&Write software may open automatically. If the application has been closed, you can locate the Read&Write logo on your desktop and double-click to re-open Read&Write. You should see a toolbar pop up that looks like this:

Navigate to the Downloads folder on your computer. Double-click the file named Read&Write.dmg.

Review the Read&Write EULA, User Terms, and Privacy Policy for Texthelp and click the Agree button.

Drag and drop the file into the Applications folder. If done correctly, you should see a small pop-up indicating that Read&Write is being copied to Applications.

You may receive a safety/security pop-up asking if you are sure you want to install Read&Write, as it is a file downloaded from the Internet. Click the Yes button or the Continue button.

Find Read&Write on your computer. Navigate to the Applications folder. Double-click on Read&Write to open the application.

After you open the application, you will see a pop-up indicating that Read&Write requires Assistive Devices to be enabled with instructions on how to do so.

Click the Open Privacy & Security button on the page that Read&Write generates or navigate to Privacy & Security > Accessibility in System Settings. You should be brought to a page that lists a few applications, including Read&Write. Toggle on the button for Read&Write.

You will be prompted to enter your username and password in order to enable settings needed for Read&Write to run on your computer. Enter the username and password for your computer, not your NVCC username and password.

Navigate back to the Read&Write application and click the Done button.

You will be prompted to allow Read&Write to access System Events. Click the OK button.
