Frequently Asked Questions
Can I nominate myself?
Yes. Self-nominations are accepted when supported by the appropriate NOVA faculty representative.
Are a resume and a supervisor letter required?
A current resume is required for all nominations. Letters of support are encouraged but optional.
Can existing members be renewed?
Yes, members may serve two consecutive terms. Select the Renewal option when completing the request. If a member’s term has expired, they may recommend to the board a replacement from their organization.
Is there a deadline for the application?
NOVA reviews the applications as they are received. Generally, applications must be received at least 6 weeks prior to the NOVA Board meeting for approval at that meeting. If you have any questions about the status of your application or a particular deadline, please contact Kristy Balbuena, Coordinator for Curriculum Initiatives at kbalbuena@nvcc.edu.
Can members of the same organization serve at the same time?
Only one representative from an industry organization can serve on an individual board. However, industry organizations with a variety of functions can be represented on different boards (i.e. one on cybersecurity, one on accounting, one on health information systems, etc.).
When is the nomination officially approved?
A nomination becomes official only after approval by the NOVA Board and appointment by the President. The NOVA Board meets in September, November, March, and May.
