Accounts and Access

Change or Reset Your myNOVA (VCCS) Password and Retrieve Your myNOVA (VCCS) Username

Employees can change or reset their myNOVA (VCCS) password without contacting the IT Help Desk. Refer to the following resources for more information:

Change, Reset, or Unlock Your NVCC Password

Employees can change, reset, or unlock their NVCC password without contacting the IT Help Desk using Microsoft's Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR).

Employees must register to use the self-service password reset. After you register, if you ever forget your NVCC password, you can reset it again yourself. You can also select Can't access your account? on the email login page to reset or unlock your account.

Set Up Multi-factor Authentication (MFA)

MFA for myNOVA (VCCS)

Employees are required to set up and use MFA to access myNOVA (VCCS) critical tools (i.e., Canvas, SIS, and Zoom).

There are three common methods for MFA using your mobile device: Push Notification, Text Notification, and Time-Based One Time Password (TOTP) Notification.

MFA for NVCC

Employees are required to set up and use MFA to access NVCC critical tools (i.e., OneDrive, Teams, and Outlook Email).

There are two common methods for MFA using your mobile device: Push Notification and Phone Notification.

Employees can review and update their supervisor and profile (directory) information. Refer to the following resources for more information:

Take Professional Development Courses, Workshops, and Training

Employees can use the NVCC.GoSignMeUp.com registration system to sign up for professional development courses, workshops, and trainings. Refer to the following resource for more information:

Communication and Collaboration

Collaborate using Microsoft Teams

Employees can use Microsoft Teams to converse with coworkers, host meetings, share files, and collaborate on documents. Refer to the following resources for more information:

Communicate using NOVAnet (College Intranet)

Employees can use NOVAnet, the college intranet, for collaboration, document sharing, and communication within the college community. NOVAnet hosts critical resources, including, but not limited to:

  • Calendars

  • Announcements & updates

  • Training resources

Create an Email Signature

NOVA requires that employees use a standard Outlook email signature. Refer to the following resources for more information:

Employees can connect to the Campus Wireless Network (WiFi) with their devices. Refer to the following resource for more information:

Download Mobile Apps on Your Phone

Employees can download NOVA mobile apps through the iTunes App store and Google Play Marketplace. Refer to the following resource for more information:

Use the NOVA Phone System & Voicemail

Employees can use desktop phone services to make conference calls and use voicemail. Refer to the following resources for more information:

Use Virtual Private Network (VPN) to Access College Resources

Employees can use VPN to create a secure connection to NOVA's network from a home office or other off-site work location. A VPN connection is required to access certain college resources (e.g., file shares or AIS). Refer to the following resource for more information:

Computer and Device

Access Microsoft 365 Tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)

Employees can use Microsoft 365 tools such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook along with online services such as OneDrive and Microsoft Teams.  Microsoft 365 is accessible on any device, as long as there is internet connectivity. Refer to the following resources for more information:

Check for Windows Updates

To ensure the integrity and security of NOVA’s data, network, and systems, employees using an NVCC-issued Windows laptop must check for Microsoft security updates the third week of every month. Refer to the following resource for more information:

Employees must complete and submit the Technology Purchase Approval Request Form to request technology purchases (Hardware, Peripherals, Technology Supplies). Refer to the following resource for more information:

Complete IT Security Awareness Training

Employees are required to complete IT Security Awareness Training every year. NOVA uses the KnowBe4 security awareness training solution. Refer to the following resources for more information:
